I'll often press attack or block and my witcher just sits there looking stupid. It's not my mouse, as it works fine in every other game. Normally, I can get combos off fine, it's just the initial attack (or block) that he does nothing. Very annoying when I've got a number of wyverns or something on me. Needless to say, it seems to happen more often during critical moments. I guess they needed to do something to make it semi-challenging. And don't even get me started on it cheating in dice poker!
I'm replaying this now and I have to agree. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but the targeting seems off. I think you need to have it just right, but there's no definite way to determine this.

Sounds like business as usual for combat in this game.

When there are multiple enemies, you must target one to start an attack. Also, the window in which you can start an attack decreases with multiple enemies. Finally, combat responsiveness is dependent on frame rate, and a system that slows badly with multiple enemies makes it hard to start attacks.

Yeah, the dice poker cheats massively. Get your rating up, and it will cheat in your favor instead.
