I never claim to be a gamer (far from it), on the same token, I am a derp when it comes to computers these days, however there is something that is sticking in my craw, that I have noticed with Dead Space, and Dragon age editions of Steam and GoG.

Before I go further, I will say that I do not game at (whatever the current) highest frame rate or textures, as I have an older Dell Inspiron 3531, using windows 10 64 bit, that is powered by 4gig ram, Duo Intel Celeron N2830 (2.16ghz), and a Intel HD card (think it is the 3500 family?). Which od course is not a problem as it is my choice.

However, over on steam, during one of their sales I picked up the Witcher one and two. When I try to play it, I am lucky to get about three fames a second. Come to think about it, most of the games from steam that I have get about the same.

Yet the Witcher copy from GOG, I am guessing I am getting about nineteen or twenty, making it much more enjoyable to play, and possibly live stream if/when I want to.

Is this discrempency due to the "always online" DRM steam has now encoded into all their games? I can say if this site keeps getting better, I will be willing to sell of my steam library for peanuts, as I cannot really run the titles I can here. 0_o

Well, on same machine I see too that Gog version , for games I play(like Witcher or Sacred 2), run better than Steam version; the common sense say that any layer of software you add to software, the software become more 'heavy', then need more power to run at same speed, but if you have high power pc and play Solitaire, you won't feel it.
can't say I have ever had this problem and I have done multiple playthroughs on steam.
Having bloatware (like steam or GOG Galaxy) in the background is like trying to cycle with a flat tire. You can still do it, but it will be slower.

On and old-ish computer you will notice this more, as the computer needs all the power it can get to run the game.
Hmm, you could try to disable the Steam Overlay, see if that makes a difference.
