The Witcher reminds me of Mass Effect where I played both games but never finished the first one. When Mass Effect 2 turned gold, I tried to rush myself with the first game but Amazon decided to be super speedy and send me Mass Effect 2 many days earlier then I figured. Curiosity kicked in and I installed ME2 to see how it looked on my (then) new PC and... I finished the game that week. I still have not finished the first one!

Log onto GOG.com today and noticed Witcher 2 comes out tomorrow! No way in hell will I be able to finish the first one before and I know I will pop the second game open when GOG allows me too and probably finish that one before the first.

Just curious if anyone else was in the same boat as I? :)

PS-Title might be misleading. The first game beat me with too much "awesome" that I could not finish it. :(

PSS-Here is a cute pic in case I bored anyone. :)

The developers have said in the dev diary videos that you will be able to enjoy the game without having played the first one. There might be some kind of story recap in the beginning of the game to get you up to speed on the story if you don't know it or have forgotten it.
On the other hand, just like in mass effect, you can import your savegames from the first part into the second one :D Although I reckon me has much more variables to track it may prove entertaining :D
Still, there are things not mentioned in Dev Diaries, which were a part of TW1 and are reappearing in TW2 - like the Wild Hunt and it's connection to Geralt's amnesia.

I would recommend playing TW1 - it's worth it, believe me. Still, taking into consideration present trends in gaming industry - I'm sure you'll enjoy TW2 without knowing anything about TW1. But to really have fun... you know.
I'm new to the Witcher as well and bought both games from GOG.

I think the Witcher 2 will be a better game and I love pretty graphics, but after several hours of playing the first Witcher I'm just hooked to the characters, the world and the story. I really don't want to miss that stuff when starting the second game...

Problem is, I play at snails speed (+ Dragon Quest 6 finaly gets released in Europe), which means no TW2 for me before summer :(

Wasn't that the whole point of gaming in the old days? To have fun as much as you could? :D
I intend to finish tw1 and take as much time as I can, just because I want to experience it fully.
I lost my cd copy and dabbled a bit in my Steam (gasp!) version and now just bought it on GOG so maybe I will play both games at the same time?

Same thing I tried to do with the Mass Effect games...sigh.

but why? Treat games like fine wine, enjoy your time with them, savor every taste and take your time, play the first part, why rush to play the second one? Will it run away? ;)

Oh, no, good sir! I play games super slow! I just had a bad idea when Mass Effect 2 came in the post super early and I just wanted to pop it in to see how it looked and I got stuck. I did beat it though! After some drinks tonight I will try to play the first Witcher again (always takes me forever to remember controls in some games). Yay for a well timed vacation where plans got canceled!

Also, anyone on Steam who plays the Witcher game(s)? I would like some friends on there I can converse with on said game(s). :) Majority of my friends play those manshooty games.
