OK, so I bought the Witcher red box, and black box and upgraded to director's cut. All items fully patched. Sound and video card drivers too.
System is i3 win7 64 bit 4GB ram Radeon HD 3650 .

As of two weeks ago, when I reinstalled TW2 for the second time from here at GOG, I keep getting strange files on the desktop when I play TWEE. Also noticed that all - 14 runs-- saves from TWEE evaporated into computer black hole. I can make new saves, that is not the issue. The issue is what are all of these files and where should their home be? Can anyone help with this issue? Better- Does anyone know what would be causing the problem?

If you need a pc report or a dx file i have those or can make new ones. I did send this to the developers, but I got to thinking it could be out of their jurisdiction.

Some time ago a user reported a bug, apparently uninstalling TW2 would remove registry entries for TW1 as well.
Probably your Witcher installation got messed up by that. Try reinstalling it. (It looks like it treats desktop as Temp folder)

As for the saves, use Windows search and look for any *.TheWitcherSave files. make sure that search in 'hidden and system folders' is checked. If they got moved anywhere, that should find it. To be on the safe side, do so before game reinstall.
