I think I'm missing a part of the story. Either I forgot, or accidentally skipped something.

I think this is a true statement: I'm running around investigating who acquired a Witcher's sword b/c whomever acquired it is part of the Salamandra. And they are bad for a reason I can't remember.

Can someone fill in these gaps for me? Or tell me a good place to go to fill them in?

Why are the Salamandra bad? They have fought me but I'm not sure I know why. Or maybe I'm not supposed to know.

And how does the sword relate to all of this?

I'm hoping to have a clearer understanding before I start accusing characters of things and it's just not getting clear for me.

The Salamandra are the ones who attacked Kaer Morhen in the Prologue, and stole the Witcher mutagens. You may recall fighting through a whole bunch of them before facing off against The Professor and Savolla, which ended badly. At the end of the Prologue, the surviving Witchers decide to split up and head in different directions in search of the Salamandra. Geralt heads to Vizima, and it seems he's found the Salamandra's trail....

To be honest, I don't remember this that well myself, but I think it's related to Berengar, the one Witcher who mysteriously wasn't at Kaer Morhen when the attack took place. Geralt surmises that this silver sword belongs to Berengar, and begins to wonder if Berengar might have something to do with the Salamandra.

Hopefully that's enough info to get you up to speed in your investigation. If someone else remembers better and can elaborate / correct me, please do.

Thank you!!! This makes sense. I did not connect that the Salamandra are the group with the wizard and all that attacked Kaer Morhen. And now what people are telling me makes much more sense. This adds a lot more depth to what they've been telling me.

Thank you very much!

No problem, glad I could help. Enjoy Chapter 2, it's really good!

The sword is mentioned by the Gardner if you talk to him enough.
It is a witcher's sword, but not who's you think. One of those who died in the books.
I played for a few hours last night and more or less ended up in the same place: confused. I think my confusion is my bad ability to remember names. People are talking about people and I don't know who they're talking about unless I see a face. It's how my brain works.

Anyway, at least I'm on the right track and most of my memory gaps are filled back in. This is what happens when you quit playing an RPG for 10 months and then pick it back up. :)

Thanks guys!

Most characters have entries in Geralt's journal, which are continually updated as he learns more. Might be worth reading through. Major characters have pictures in there too.

Spectacular idea! I checked out a few characters that I had met in there but didn't even think about looking up the others that people are talking about. I was using a wikia article to help me with some info on the squirrel people. (squi'etal or something like that) That will get me up and running in no time without spoilers, I'm sure. I'll give it a read. Thanks for the good idea!
