I've played the game about 5 times without any problem. But suddenly, now when I click 'launch game' from the launcher the sceen just turns black indefinitely. If I hit enter or escape the game crashes and I cannot play. How can I fix this?

Also, this appeared to happen after I downloaded Witcher 2. (Witcher 2 intall did not launch after download so I had to erase Witcher 2 from my hard disc and re-download). It was about this time when I noticed my issues with Witcher 1. Could it be that I messed up Witcher 1 when I deleted Witcher 2?

Have you installed any video card drivers etc since?

Try backing up your saves, then uninstall and reinstall The Witcher.
