I searched the forum but couldn't find anybody with this same problem. I'm running WIndows 7.

I uninstalled my original Witcher game (non-GOG) so I could install the GOG version (yes, I bought the game twice!) to the same disk as all my other GOG games. I know my saves are under Users\<My ID>\The Witcher\saves. But when I run the GOG version and try to load a save, it says there aren't any!!! Is this because it is doing some cloud stuff? How do I get GOG Witcher to recognize my old save games? I don't want to start from scratch!

Anybody know? Thanks!

Could be a different format for Steam.

Personally I dislike Steam, like paying for adware.

[i]I've enclosed a one of my own copys of a DRM Free save, when Gerald has just finished the prologue and is about to start Ch 1.

Compare and use if you wish.

Apologies, I can't post the file after all, it's too big.

The saves for my GOG installation is under the following location:

"Documents/The Witcher/Saves/"

I am on Windows 10 BTW.

This should not be because of "cloud stuff". That is just optional backup on cloud, and doesn't replace the offline save functionality.

Oops, thought that was just me!

thanks for the replies. for some reason, my original witcher game did not require administrator privilege but the gog version does. :-(

there were two problems at once:

the saved games were going to the administrator's home directory (i use a non-privileged account regularly). i ended up having to copy all of my original saves to the admin's documents/the witcher/saves directory.

the other problem is that i had moved all home directories off the C drive (where I only want the Windows OS) and the game only wanted to see the saves on the C drive so i also had to create a junction/link from my second drive back to the C drive where the game wanted to see them.
