Picking up a new laptop for productivity, most of my games are old. Newest is TW1.

Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM processor
GeForce GT 525M
6GB DDR3 memory

Thanks!

absolutely :)
no problem , provided your HDD is big enough :p
Yes it should definitely be able to play the witcher . I`m sure that windows 7 is on that laptop in which case you would need to update to the 1.5 patch and then remove the Tages drivers via the Tages website . The original tages driver is not compatible with windows 7 and windows 7 will block the tages driver from loading . Then you get a insufficient privileges message .

True but only if you install from a disc version. The GOG version is already 1.5 and does not have any Tages.

EDIT: I ran my disc version under Windows 7 without any problems, but as tommy5761 says, you have to get the patch first.

Correct :) I did forget to mention this in my post . The steam version should also be at 1.5 as well

Install the latest nVidia Verde drivers, and go into the nVidia Control Panel and make sure that The Witcher is set to use the "high performance nVidia GPU".

Laptops with Nehalem or Sandy Bridge CPUs and nVidia GPUs sometimes have trouble with The Witcher, because of an annoying feature called Optimus.
Wow. thanks to everyone for the replies!

My old laptop was one of those Intel integrated graphics jobs, and I've never had any computer with nvidia (or ATI) hardware. I have no idea how to judge system requirements on games when they say something like "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater", so I appreciate the input! Wish I could mark everyone as a solution.

Does anyone know of a website that allows easy comparison of older and newer desktop and mobile GPUs? I've little understanding of all the benchmark tests and what not over at notebookreview.

For mobile GPUs, there's Notebookcheck: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.130.0.html

There's no similarly comprehensive site for desktop GPUs. As a sort of compensation, nformation from the manufacturers and independent reviews are somewhat easier to come by.
