Hello.

I started playing the GOG-version of the Witcher about a week ago and I'm currently running around in chapter 2. I've spent a few hours in the Swamp and on my return to Vizima I get this error after the cutscene with the boat:
Unable to load module - IFO file invalid.
Then the game exits to main menu.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Unexpected: [...]
The save got corrupted. To try fixing it:

(First make a save backup)
Run the game, load your latest save.
Alt-Tab from the game, open the folder:
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\The Witcher\temp\saves\<loaded savegame>
delete all *.sav files
return to game, make a new save, try changing location.
Thank you so much, it worked like a charm :)

Good to hear, I'm not certain if it doesn't reset the locations though (i.e. you would have to talk to people one again, or something like that). Hopefully not.

I know it's been awhile but I was trying to finish off a playthrough and all my most recent save files are corrupted. I get invalid .ifo or the game just crashes. I can go back a few saves to get it to load however when I view the save file location there are no files with a .sav extension. They all have .TheWitcherSave as an extension are these the same?

You are checking in the wrong folder. Like I wrote in the previous post:
- you need to start the game and load the save
- don't exit the game, just minimize it to taskbar
- open windows explorer, double-click the address bar, paste the following and press enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\The Witcher\temp\saves
- there you should find the folder named like the save that is currently loaded in-game
- enter it and there delete all .sav files
- return to game, make a new save and try changing location

I apologize, because I moved the "My Documents" folder to it's own drive I assumed you were pointing to those saves and you know what "assuming" makes you right? ;) Thanks for your patience and taking the time to update the thread again. If I think back all those years ago I remember doing this soon after release as well.

Cheers!
