I have to admit that The Witcher 3 is a fantastic game. I am loving every second of it and the combat itself is vast improvement over the sequel. However I cannot help but miss the combat of the original game. The element of strategy and the ability to take ones time was so much more fun.

Am I the only one who has this psychological annoyance? :P

How DARE you question the supremacy of Our Lord and Savior The Witcher 3! Fall on your knees and repent of your heresy!

...Wait, wait, I've got an alternative reply...

Fixed that for you. ;D

...For reals, though, I've only ever played the first game, and not even to completion, so I have little basis for comparison. I can't say I've ever had any of the issues with the combat that some complain about -- in fact, the only times I've had serious problems in that regard were in certain spots where there was a lot going on and the frame rate took a nosedive, making it hard to manuever or properly time my clicks. Based on everything I've heard about Assassins of Kings, I'm pretty sure the first game's combat is more to my personal taste than the second one's is.

Witcher 2/3 combat is real good, even better in 3. But there is some charm and something quite memorable about the first game that the sequels didn't quite achieve. Not taking anything away from them of course. I love these games.
