Hi there,
I experience graphics glitches like those: http://postimg.org/image/kydvsx0vl/ (screenshot not by me, someone else here has the same issue: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=26114)
It is even worse in regions with trees, like the swamp.

I am certain that I played this game at some point without those issues, but I have no idea what changed.
I tried a fresh install with just d3dx9_36 and got the same issue.

Hardware is Intel HD 3000
Wine 1.9.11 but it is the same with older versions. Some really old versions (1.4 and the like) just crash.
s3tc is installed and enabled.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Your GPU isn't good enough. That's it. I have a laptop with both HD3000 and NVS4200M. On HD3000 in WIndows 10 with latest drivers from Intel I have the same problem, but with NVS4200M with latest drivers from nvidia page, there is no such problem.

No, it is not too bad to run this game. I am certain it worked alright up to some point, I just changed some settings or installed something that broke it. I just don't remember what that was.

Besides, there are videos on youtube showing it with a Intel HD 4000 and showing witcher 2 and even witcher 3 with Intel HD 3000. They use a different engine though. Other games that use the aurora engine work just fine with the Intel HD 3000, for example NWN 2.

It seems that CD Projekt RED rewrote the rendering engine, so I guess it is a bug in there that causes this issue.
I can now definitely say that The Witcher does run fine on an Intel HD 3000.

I just found the solution to the graphics glitch, quite by accident. Titan quest has an issue with some flickering textures and a workaround for that. Guess what, the same thing fixes the flickering issue for The Witcher!

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D", add the String
"CheckFloatConstants" with the value "enabled"

I also set the Video memory size to 2048.

Tested with WINE 1.9.18. Nothing more is needed for an (almost) perfect witcher experience.

The only remaining glitch is some blank black textures in Vizima. I guess those are supposed to be puddles. No idea why they do not show properly, it is a very minor issue.
Glad you found a solution. I was offered the same advice here, although I had a different graphical glitch. There is a screenshot in the post above in the link, essentially Geralt barely shows up at all, apart from his eyes and some bits and pieces. Looks pretty funny.
