I have a problem with my savegames, that when I load the save, Geralt is laying on the floor with zero health and the screen is grey like he's dead. I can't move or do anything, and I can't use any key other than F9. Escape key doesn't even work. I tried loading earlier saves but the problem is the same for those going back about 10 saves and many hours back. I don't want to have to start over from so far back. I am using the GOG.com version, just downloaded.

You could make a backup of your saves and try the suggestion in this post

I found that before I posted here, but it's not possible for me to do what he suggests, because I can't access the save menu or any other menu after loading those saves. No button on my keyboard works except F9 (quickload) and I have to hit alt-F4 to exit the game. It's very frustrating. More like a bug in the game than a corrupt save.
Okay, I ended up going back to my "good" save and replaying from there, and it seemed as if the problem had gone away but it came back again today. However unlike before I could access the save game menu and I was able to do what the poster on that other forum suggested and it worked. When my character was "dead", his health bar was slowly regenerating and I waited until it got about half way before I made a new save, and then I loaded from that save. I came back in the same spot very much alive and with half a health bar.

So it seems there is some solution to this problem but I still cannot explain my problem earlier of being dead and not being able to access any menus in the game. I hope that I don't have that same manifestation of the problem in the future because then I would not be able to use the save trick again. I'll consider this matter closed unless someone knows just what is causing this in the first place so that it can be avoided completely.
