There's a few topics regarding downloader problems, but they're all old.

I used the latest GOG downloader version to dl the game. Win 7, solid state HDD, NTFS formatting, downloaded plenty of other items too.

So The Witcher reaches 4.3 gig and it freezes. Checksum error in chunk 143 it says. So I follow instructions to reduce download to 1 at a time, and it starts, then freezes again, chunk 140. Try again - chunk 145.

So I contact tech support, who suggest wiping my GOG user folder. BIG MISTAKE. I follow the instructions and start again, and it starts from 0.0. Meaning I need to redownload 4 gigs which took me days to do.

I made sure the download folder was the same as last time (C:\GOG). Obviously if you wipe the files in the user folder it won't recognise there are half completed files in the folder.

So I'm starting form scratch.

Except!!!

A guy on the general forum, in the topic regarding the GOG downloader, on january 12 had the EXACT same problem as me. It reaches 4.29 gig for him then freezes.

I'm worried. I don't want to spend a week perpetually downloading just to get stuck again.

He claimed his error was due to FAT32 formatting, but I'm NTFS and I get the same problem he did.

Advice?

I got the game free in an earlier sale, so I'm not that bothered. Right now it seems more effort than it's worth to play.

sketcz: ... Advice?
The downloader downloads tons of little chunks which are put together in the end, maybe there's a problem in doing so. If you experience problems like that, I'd try downloading the seven files manually without the downloader (deactivate downloader mode) from your game shelf.
Most browsers nowadays support resuming of downloads in case the connection drops, so you can safely try it without the downloader.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had considered downloading them individually. But 1.5 gig might be a little high for my net connection.

I've tried use the pause and resume function on Firefox, and it's never worked.

If this freezes again, I shall try them individually.

I don't use Firefox regularly, so I don't know. Opera handles it pretty well.
Alternatively you could use a Download Manager like FDM (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/), but I would only install another software if nothing else works.

I forgot, I have GetRight, I'll try that if all else fails. Hopefully it captures the URL. Some download sites do not like use of such progs.
