Recently purchased the witcher for the second time mainly due to being unable to update my retail to the EE because of the registration servers being down. Anyways I've been getting the crash on startup crap even though I've had the game working fine before on this computer I've tried jus about every fix i can find online atm and starting to lose hope. Reinstalled 3 times tried running in xp compatability aswell as a few of the ther fixes but nothing changes.

Any help would be appreciated cheers

The Fixes to Common Problems sticky thread has a few suggestions for this... the best bet is forcing windowed mode through the registry.

But I am curious, since you say you had the game working before... has anything changed? Is it a new install / new version of the game?

Also, more info on your system specs would be useful. The game is known to not like multiple GPUs or multiple monitors, for example.

Been through the common problems solutions already and no luck so far have also tried running the game in windowed mode. And yeah its a new install from gog.com older version was from a retail copy with ran fine (although reinstalling it now gives me the same problem as the gog version)

Heres a few comp specs for ya

vista 32
nvidia geforce 9800 GT
amd phenom 9500 quad core 2.2ghz

Nothings really changed since i last ran the game a year or 2 ago except driver updates.

thanks for the reply
Do you get any error message at all, or does it just spit you back to the desktop?
Just the standard "this program has encountered a problem and will close" message is all I'm getting. Just totally clueless on what to atm got another install on the go going into a a place of than c/program files, heard its worked for a few people.

Yeah that's a good thing to check. Also make sure that you are running the installer and game itself as administrator. Post back about whether it works or not.
Reinstall didnt work and was ran as admin as suggested might have to try calling support and see if theres anything they have to say

Yeah, at the moment I'm out of ideas. You can submit a support ticket to GOG but I would also recommend trying the CD Projekt support.
A couple of quick things:

Check Event Viewer for the crash log.

Try a clean boot and run the game.

Run the game with the bare minimum, ie if you have headphones and USB devices etc plugged in, temporarily unplug them.
I had this same thing going on with my pc. I installed DivX and it worked like a charm. Apparently the problem was that I didn't have the codec to play the intro video.
