Replaying the game for the second time, I've noticed one annoying thing about crafting swords:

Why in hell would you give me two yellow meteorites and three different runes in the ending of Chapter V and Epilogue?! There ain't anybody that can even make them into a sword by that time, not to mention selling them...

Also, forgot that Lady of the Lake gives you a nice silver sword. Too bad I didn't remember that before I crafted much better one just before and it got disappeared when she gave me her "gift".

Yup.
Apart from that, the second play through was really enjoyable.

Yea that's dumb, when the old forum gets on-line again there are some mod fixes for the runes and stones..suppose to be sometime today(Sunday)

Are you sure the one you crafted was better? I always though that the sword from the Lady of The Lake was the best, but I may be wrong.

Also, the sword you had should have dropped on the ground, not disappear.

Subjectively better :) I liked how it fitted my style of fighting.

Nope. -> "As of the Enhanced Edition, it is not possible to collect rune swords (even after reforging your first rune sword)" from Wiki.
I walked around and tried to find it. Unlike steels, it didn't drop.
There are two smiths in chapter 5 (old Vizima). One with the Order and the other one with the squirrels. Even when you play neutral you should be able to go use one of them to reforge a sword but only after the big battle when things settle down (so after you have successfully reached the Swamp).

Only during the Epilogue there's no way to reforge a sword.

Different mechanics. With Meteorite (steel) swords, the blacksmith makes an additional sword for you. With Rune (silver) swords, the blacksmith brands your existing sword with the runes. That's why you can't find the earlier sword.

I understand that very well. However, I am talking about the sword from the Lady.

Damn, I can't believe I forgot about that. I guess it's because I've been replaying it as a neutral character.

If you have a rune sword when you get the sword from the Lady of the Lake, it will be dropped. I think that if you leave the area, it will be gone when you return.

If this bothers you, stash your rune sword with the Innkeeper before you talk to the Lady.
Which one is better? The original witcher steel sword or the one with the rune/meteorite.

Meteorite swords are always better than the Witcher's Steel Sword, and rune swords are always better than the Witcher's Silver Sword.

Three meteorites of the same color give the best results. I like the triple red meteorite sword, which you can get early in the game. The triple yellow meteorite sword is even better, but you cannot get it until late in the game.

With runes, you can mix and match to get the critical effects you want. The earliest you can get three runes together, though, is Act III.

I had a triple blue one in Act II. I'm replaying to remember whether I got my second blue meteorite in I or II. If I, I might be able to get my first in I.

You can indeed get two blue meteorites in Act I (you have to buy one). You can get three red meteorites by mid-Act I, if you fought the Frightener in the Prologue. (Yes, being able to get a triple red meteorite sword in mid-Act I is a bit unbalancing.)

I always get a 3 Red Meteorite sword in Chapter 2 and use it throughout the rest of the game. I never even replaced it with the Mahakman Rune Sihill because I think the Sihill looks goofy. 3 Reds does plenty of damage, especially once you max out strength and Strong Steel talent trees.

I used it until I could buy Gwalhir in Chapter 4. I don't mind the look of G'valchir and the armor penetration coupled with the massive damage bonus really helps with Greater Brothers.
