I haven't seen anyone else mention this. Here's what happened to me:
I decided to replay The Witcher, but this time I thought I'd try a mod or two. Well, my first try was using the new overhaul mod called Rise of the White Wolf (which is pretty nice by the way).
I got to chapter 2 with no problems, and even there things were fine for a long time. Then I started going into houses, and the graphics started to go haywire. Frame rate drops, missing textures, and other stuff started happening, but only when I was inside a house (which includes Thaler's house, although it didn't start happening there). Inside the Hairy Bear was no problem, and once I would exit to the street, everything returned to normal.
I thought it was a problem with Rise of the White Wolf, because that mod is relatively new, so I restarted with Flash's mod. Unfortunately the same thing has happened now that I've reached chapter 2 again. I entered Thaler's house at one point, and I could see nothing but black because there were no textures. I can still move and rotate the camera, and even talk to Thaler, but I can't get out because I can't find my way back to the door.
The strangest thing is, I don't remember having this problem the first times I played The Witcher. Granted, that was a couple of years ago, but the only change I've made to my system in that time is an upgraded GPU (from Nvidia to AMD) and a HD reformat and system reinstall (XP).
Just wondering whether anyone has heard of this problem before, because my initial searches have not turned up anything useful.
Thanks.
EDIT:
As a potential solution I'm going to try cleaning out some of the Temp folders.
EDIT2:
That didn't work. I've uninstalled the game for now. I'm going to re-install it in a few days and see if the problem persists. Really frustrating, especially since Chapter 1 is the worst part of the game and I keep having to play it over.
EDIT3:
I've started running the game in a window, and the problem seems to have disappeared. Makes a huge difference for me, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
