Dear all,

The Witcher 1 and 2 are driving me crazy. I've tried every fix suggested by tech support and found on the web. My situation is as follows:

- I've successfully downloaded the GOG installer. The game WILL install successfully on my laptop and work pc. However, running the same installer on my game pc results in checksum errors. I've downloaded the game 7 times (don't ask) to different media and from different connections, and the problem persists.
- If I install the game to an external HD, the executable will run on my desktop, but NOT on my game pc.

The game PC is a i5 quad core 3.1 ghz, 8gb ram, with HD6850 videocard, running Windows 7 x64, SP1.

Does anyone have an inkling what might be the problem? I'd really appreciate your input!

I have a win7 64 bit rig, Testing the install now... Will post back with results.

*edit* Okay, installed and ran just fine. I ran the installer as admin. My setup is:

Core i7 920
6 GB RAM
GTX 560ti
Win7 64 bit SP1

I have my OS on an SSD. I have the GOG files on my storage drive (drive S on my rig - separate HDD) and installed the game on my game drive (drive E on my rig - another separate HDD).

If the same files will install on one PC but not on the other, something corrupts them during transfer. Do a hash comparison and see if they are the same, and if they are identical, look at dependancies. I'm not sure if The Witcher requires any runtimes (DX9, VC++ etc), but it would be worth checking for those.

Thanks for your help! It actually appears like the RAM might be faulty, which would make total sense.

I had the same problem once. It meant that attempting to download or unpack large compressed files would routinely fail. In the end I used it as an excuse to build a new machine, but just replacing the RAM should work too.
