Before you go all "Wait for the flaming sword",don't. This isn't about DDR Swordplay. What this is about is something else entirely. My Witcher 1 game is completely vanilla. No mods. My problem is that, despite me having all the information saying that, yes,I'm good to attack (Proper time, not being hit,not suffering any debilitating effects,et cetera...),Geralt simply refuses to swing his sword. He simply stands there. Gormlessly. I get no messages. Nothing indicates as to why this is happening, nor is there a pattern as to when it happens. It simply does, more often than not when it would be fatal,be it to myself,or an important NPC,like,say... Abagail.

If anyone knows, what causes this? And how do I fix this? Because it's getting to the point where I want to pitch my computer our the fifth floor window.

It's been a while since i last played it, but, do you use the right style for each situation? Geralt has three fighting styles; strong, fast & group. If i remember correctly, if you don't use the right one for the situation, Geralt is unable to attack at all. Also, don't click the attack button repeatedly... just once and then wait until the flaming sword shows up to click again.

As I stated quite clearly in the post; It's not a timing issue. I've already mastered the combat's timing. If I can parry in Dark Souls while half-asleep,I can fight in the Witcher. And you CAN use the wrong style; Geralt will still swing. It's just very likely that the enemy will dodge, block,or parry. No,the issue is simply that Geralt simply does NOTHING.
I read your post, my point was the repeated use of the attack button, not the timing. But anyway, I'm out of ideas, sorry.. maybe wait a little longer and then contact support, maybe it's a bug or something.

That does sound odd. Sometimes Geralt will wait a few seconds after you click before he actually starts attacking, but it sounds like you're already aware of this. I think ti's related to whether or not he's fully in range; sometimes he'll shuffle around a bit before he finally decides to attack, and pressing other buttons during that time will cancel the attack.

The other possibility is that Geralt is afflicted by a status effect. For example, the pain effect basically paralyzes him so he won't do anything. But usually this is accompanied by an animation, as well as a status icon on his medallion at the top of the screen. I can confirm that it can be very annoying, but it is part of the game, and I think Geralt can use potions to try and resist these effects a bit.

If it's not either of those things, then it may just be a bug. In which case I agree that contacting support may be in order.
I get this glitch sometimes as well, switch styles and then switch back and it will usually take care of it, or move around a little or do a battle-dodge (twice in the same direction), that fixes it. Or even sheathe your sword and pull it back out again.

It's just an annoying little glitch but not game-breaking for me.

EDIT: It occurred to me, that hitting space bar to pause and then clicking on the enemy and then unpausing may also bypass this glitch.

Doesn't this happen if you're either being blocked by the enemy OR if you're using the wrong style?

He already stated that he is not even getting the "blocked" or "parry" message that pops up when that happens, Geralt is just standing there not attacking supposedly.

Yeah so i saw but unless it's full out glitch, this is what is happening.
You need to turn off the "Conscientious Objector" option for Geralt in the options menu, although I warn you this increases the difficulty of the game exponentially...;)
