So, I installed The Witcher EE to replay it, only now I the saved games thumbnails are all black. I took a look in the saved games folder and there are no thumbnail files.
What to do?

Does The Witcher even creates thumbnail files ? I have a bunch of backed up saves and i have no thumbnail files, just the actual save files.

Maybe you are thinking about The WItcher 2 ? That one does creates thumbail files

What? No, I'm pretty sure the saved games have thumbnails at the load game menu. I don't know about the thumbnail file creation process but the saved games surely had images beside them. Anyway, They are black now, I don't know why.
See, at thte load game screen there is the name for the saved game and a black rectangle.
One thing ocurred to me as I'm typing this: the little thumbnails are in a 4:3 proportion, and my monitor is 16:9.
Maybe That's it?

Yeah, some saves have (i think autosaves do have them) correspondent images from within the game but i'm assuming those thumbs you see in the load menu aren't created as separate image files at save time, they are embeded into the save file itself most likely.

I don't have the game installed right now so i can't do a proper check. I woudn't think the issue relates to resolution or aspect ratio though but stranger things happen all the time ;)

Are those saves without image older saves or current ones ? If you make new saves do those get images ?

Well, I figured it out.
Turns out I was right about the resolution issue.
I changed to a 4:3 resolution and saved a game. The thumbnail showed up alright.
16:9 is a black sqaure though. So I think I'll have to choose, play it on a 4:3 resolution and have thumbnails or play it 16:9 and have those ugly black squares.
If someone has a fix for this, I'll be very grateful.

Do you get thumbnails for your saves?

I've always played this game on a 16:9 resolution (1366x768), and I don't get thumbnails for my saves. It doesn't bother me at all, really. I didn't even notice they were missing until you mentioned them.
