I'm a super huge HP Lovecraft fan, adore Cthulhu (and all the elder gods), but this game just does not grip me. I've tried restarting it a few times... Upgraded my pc so it would run better.... Played it on xbox....


Just the weirdest thing. The Call of Cthulhu game that Cyanide did, I can sit and play through in one setting. This one.... I think it's the combat, it just ticks me off.

I wish it weren't that way, but it is. Anyone else experiencing this with TSC?

Yes, first time I played it a while ago, I stopped when we needed to fight monsters, because combat is awful.
I bought again the game anyway yesterday because, you know, Lovecraft, and I think I remember we can change just the combat difficulty? Or I'll try to use mods or cheats just to go through comabts if it bores me too much...

Hmm if that's an option I might go back to it.

So I played 2 or 3 hours with "easy" combat (without mods or cheats) and I have to say, I'm glad I launched the game again. Combat is still bad but I it is tolerable in easy, and the mood and ambiance of the game and the freedom it gives catches up. I can't wait to continue the game...

I liked this one better than the Call of Cthulhu game from Cyanide. I enjoyed the open world aspects and I did not mind the combat after I turned it to Easy mode (it started off a bit too harsh).

Neither game is as good as Dark Corners of the Earth though, I would recommend that one strongly, but it has some palyability issues on modern hardware.

It is totally different in terms of gameplay, but my favorite recent Lovecraft game has been Dreams in the Witch House by Atom Brain Games. It's more of a point-and-click adventure but it has some really great gamaplay loops that kept me hooked.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check them out. I loved Cyanide's game. I'm not opposed to linear games, though. Maybe I just have to set it to easy combat I guess.

I'have tested it 3 times and i'have also difficult with the combat. So i uninstall the game...

I'will try the difficulty combat on easy next time, i'want to love this game.

Yeah, it also didn't grip me and not just because of the rather bad combat. There isn't enough interesting things to see to justify an open world. While I'm not an expert for Lovecraft, in my memory the stories started in a fairly normal setting where the madness crept in over time. Here the madness is already present right from the start and this doesn't help me to get immersed or feel any horror.
And for a survival game the supplies were easier to come by the further the main story went, which resulted in overabundance of crafting materials and ammunition / supplies.

What also disappoints are the skill tree and the ending. The skills are boring, doesn't do much and could have been left out and the ending is pretty much "choose slot for ending": One bad, one worse and one "fuck this shit".
