Anniversary or Gold Edition? Which offers the best experience?

Gold is REALLY HARD and 10 Anniversary is relatively easy.
I don't know if that helps.

Also, while still a great game, the Gold graphics have aged A LOT, I'm talking C64 territory. You get used to it but the first time you play it can be very offsetting.

What are the biggest differences? Are there any game play differences?

Graphics are the big one, and it is A HUUUUUUUUUGE difference The basic gameplay is the same, building is pretty much all the same, but IMO 10th Anniversary is much simple; the controls are refined. I always had trouble getting troops where I wanted them in Gold, and getting money where I wanted it.

Settlers 2 10th has graphical issue on widescreen. it unfortunately zooms in instead of showing more of screen on non 4:3 screens.

If you running something besides standard 16:9 its unplayable.

And isn't the 10th anniversary version missing an expansion or something? Or was that finally added?

Think it is still missing the expansion vikings add-on. But i don't own this game here so no way to check it out. Forum of missing game series still mentions it here https://www.gog.com/forum/general/completionists_list_of_missing_games_from_gog_series_v2/post6

I am running it in 3440x1440 21:9 with no problems except the UI and text is a bit on the small side...

in my ultrawide 1080p its all zoomed in...unplayable. maybe cause of your higher res its better?

Maybe so--don't really know. I can run in lower resolutions too, but then I get the black stripes on either side of my screen. The UI is larger though...
