Hello, sweet gentleness and possibly ladies.

I was lightened up by today's news about appearance of beloved Settlers III. I bought it and after 5 hours of downloading *.exe with my extremely poor Harlem's internet speed, I have thrown this file into my Virtual Windows XP Pro SP3 running under VMware Fusion 5.0.1 (I'm using last marvelous ML as a host system).

Basically, it doesn't work.

1) If I start it just as it is, nothing happens, except little yellow (?) icon in trey; and process "single.exe" eating 99% of CPU. // picture #1

2) Launching file "S3.exe" freezes everything, including explorer. // pic. #2

3) Playing with compatibility mode gives an error. // pic. #3

P.S. I've played with different parameters of both VM and setup.exe, but it did not help.

Please, help me to jump into nostalgia, I'm dying to play third Settlers! :)

what happened when you ran it from your main OS? I think they re-did it to work best under the later versions of windows.

You may want to send Support a message about this. (By the way, did you use GOG's downloader or direct download?) However, theoretically you shouldn't need a VM to play this.

I'm no expert but by the looks of those screenshots I think he's on a Mac :)

It's very specific thing, they probably should not be responsible for this. I might be mistaken.

GOG's Downloader, but I don't understand why it matters. I ended up with installer exec file anyway.

P.P.S. By "I'm using last marvelous ML as a host system" I meant Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. :)
Get a PC, thats my best tip.
Amazing advice, FiffA, very helpful...

Fix found in other topic by Protoss, "S3.exe" had to be named "Siedler3.exe". Thanks. :) I'm happy now
