In case anyone is interested in more then 10.000 settlers on a map,
the attached image will show you the locations for these limits in the S4_main.exe.
(I couldn't find it on the Net so i had a look in the .exe just for fun. :) )

Always make a backup before "playing around" with the game files.
You will be doing it on your own risk and you need to know how to use a hex editor.

In a network game (not tested), all players will have to use the exact same mod/values.

Eternally grateful for the Hex Edit.

One slight problem, the carriers are capped to 999 which the parameter needs editing. Nearly 20 years of trying to find an increased Settlers IV population mod, this is brilliant but we need your help xmorphyx as you are the only one in this world capable of this edit.

First i didn't know which limit you mean. "There is another one? O.o" :)
You mean the reserve carriers and they usually are limited to 999.
Good thing here is, that there are not much values in the game which are limited to exactly "999" or "0x3E7".
See the attached picture, which values need to be changed for more reserve carriers.

Do you know how to create a larger map, larger than 1024 x 1024.
1024 x 1024 is an option in the Editor, there got to be a way to change it in the hex editor. Since you found a way to have more settlers you are the best option.

I would like to say a big thankyou for the parameters provided. World Class!

I have a theory for the broken Ai.

Now with The Settlers III I drew some maps with minimum path finding, basically one giant island with no water on land only rivers. This reduces path finding resources on the Ai which helped take the Ai from round 2500 soldiers to over 6000 solders.

I'm going to draw a new Settlers IV map with minimum path finding and see if we can fix the broken Ai.

I'll upload the map if successful.

Good to hear that it worked.
The AI caused desync problems usually when attacking towers or defending their own towers.
At least it happend so on my test map i made, where 3 AI players (2 PC LAN Game) were fighting 2vs1 against each other.
The economy to rise the Settler count worked quite good.
(I think settler count rised from 6000 to about 9000 Settlers in summary.)

The desyncs usually came up when the AI players started to attack each other.
I wonder if desyncs were still present if only the server would manage the AI Players.
But i gues we will never know. :) (Still dreaming of an open source S4)


@ quarky82: Adding support for larger maps than 1024x1024 to S4 is far beyond my pitiful knowledge
about programm modding. :P

Were going to do some more testing with The Settlers IV, create a new map with only one AI team and see what happens.

I uploaded some Settlers III maps also if you are interested? The maps are capable of producing 10,000+ soldier units.

I'll post back the results.

Further testing The Settlers IV we have discovered another cap, literally cannot believe how much limiting ubisoft did to this game. May we request your expertise once again?

It would seem that the soldier offensive strength is capped to 150%, resulting in players purchasing level 3 soldiers when the 150% limit is reached.

If this 150% offensive strength was edited, then it gives the player the choice of balancing 2 options,

1. Further raise the Offensive Strength by storing gold, or by building more eye catchers.

2. Sacrifice raising Offensive Strength by spending gold on higher level soldiers.

Would it be difficult to track down the parameter for the value '150'?

This does not work with S4_Main for history edition which was released in 2018. Do you know how to do it for that version?

is there any chance of changing the color in the campaign?
