I have been trying before, to make settlers 4 work over LAN, and never been successful. The final and best result was when me and a friend both connected to a game and then the other one always dropped, that was the biggest success!

Does anyone have a straight forward working and tested way to play a game over LAN in Settlers IV? If you managed to success in doing so, are there any problems such as crashing, lag, droping, does F12(fast forward) work in any possibile way?

Thank you a lot for your answer, i am thrilled to get this game to play with my friends but it seems pretty unreal.

Well, the last time I played Settlers IV over LAN was like... 8 years ago, maybe. A lot has changed since, including computers.
Anyway; what I would suggest doing(as I don't own a Windows 8 PC to experiment with the Settlers IV compatibility) would be giving Hamachi a try; it creates a virtual"online"LAN whch allows for many games to be playes online on"LAN".

You basically install it on both computers, then join the same network and just"ping"each other. That should solve it most of the times.

Anyway, what OS is the other computer using? I'm guessing that not a very old one, but keep in mind that newer versions of Windows(post XP) tend to have problems with mixed networks(between older and newer OSses, that is).

Good luck! :) Hope my comment was, if even a little, somewhat helpful!

Your post shed some light in, but you haven't answered if you managed to play the game over LAN successfully. Also, we use windows 8/7 only, and have tried with hamachi before, however the game dropped for one of us as soon as it loaded into it.
