I cannot get the procedure to work on this. I left click on the landing dock and am following the instructions under the Tips & Tricks. but the line of red pegs that is supposed to show up doesn't display. Maybe I'm just missing something. How exactly do you designate a start point and end point? Can someone walk me through this step-by-step for what I am supposed to do to transport tools from the main settlement to the island outpost? Thanks..
You need to make sure that the start point is near the landing dock (if done correctly, a dock will appear like the one in the shipyard) and the end point somewhere near a coast - other than that, I cannot think of a reason why it wouldn't work.
OK, if I understand, I should be creating a dock (jetty) for the Landing Post similar to the one I created for the Shipyard. How exactly is that done - by clicking just off the coast near the Landing Dock? Would it matter if the Landing Dock is too close to the Shipyard? Then, how do I create a Starting Point? Is that the Waypoint process or something else? Thanks!
It doesn't matter whether the shipyard is close by. As long as the landing dock is sufficiently close to the coast, it should work. More specifically, when the landing dock is selected, in the interface on the left there are four (not very big) icons on the top (just above where all the goods which you can send appear). The left-most button is for designating the start point and after selecting it, just clicking near the coast should make the dock appear. Similarly, the right-most button is for the end point and when you have chosen one, start and end point should be connected by small dots to show the route potential trade ships will take. (If it crosses land, you might need to add a few way points in-between but in most cases/for short routes, this is not necessary. Anyway, it works the same way - first clicking the respective button and then on the location.) Hope this helps!
Slap me if this is an overtly silly question, but you are making sure your trade route only goes over water, right? If it crosses any land at all, even a teeny tiny little sliver, the boat will not make the run.
Thanks to both. I'll check to see about the route going over land, but I don't think so. My problem is that when I access the Landing Dock and click on the button with the ship (Place Dock), nothing happens when I click in the water near the coast next to the Landing Dock or on the land at the coast: No dock, no red dots, nothing.
What you obviously do need, though, is a trade ship to transport goods (not a ferry!). You do have one, don't you? Try moving it near the landing dock if not already done - it needs to be assigned to the route manually, even though it will later act completely automatically.
If this still doesn't solve the problem, and just to make sure this is not some sort of glitch: have you tried restarting the mission or tried setting up a trade route on a different map to see if the problem persists there?
Ah, success! I destroyed the Landing Post and rebuilt it further down the coast. Everything seems to be working as described in the rules now. So, either it WAS too close to the Shipyard, intervening land WAS in the way or a more direct line-of-sight was required to plot the trade path. At any rate, thanks to all for helping me out - I probably wouldn't have figured it out without you. Glad to see the community forums work. Thanks again.
