Hi guys.

I hope someone can help me with this, since I have run my head against a wall trying to fix this for 2 days now.
I install Settlers III no problemo, but when I launch the game, the screen goes black, and nothing happens.
I tried waiting 10min (Just to test it out), but the only option in the end is turning off the PC by holding down the power button on the cabinet.

I tried all the options in the support section, and nothing works. So if anyone got any clue or idea how to fix this, it would be great!

Here is my system specs

Hi Oedi.

Intro is disabled, and that didnt help.
I also tried to name change that was suggested in some other thread. Where you change the name of the exe file to siedler3 instead of S3. That didnt work either, but I wouldnt have believed it would either.
ok, you could try the other exe files in the Settlers 3 directories or use xp compatibility modes.
i have no idea whats causing this issue.

hmm its a longshot, some high resolution monitors are not able to display really low resolutions like 640x480 (settlers 3 main menu resolution). can you change your desktop resolution to 640x480 without problems?

Funny enough, I am on my laptop at the moment. That can run Settlers 3 just fine.
My stationary decided to die yesterday. It is quite odd that.

When my stationary is fixed, I will check out the resolution, and see if that helps anything. =)

I was wondering if it might be because my stationary uses a quad core. Since the laptop is a dual core?

i highly doubt that, I have 6 cores and no problems with the game.

what you can do when you get your pc back is update your geforce driver, directx and windows itself, sometimes MS ships some compatibility patches for old games. sometimes it also helps to close all other running programs/processes (via task manager, except for system tasks of corse). some old games have problems with that. back when i used miranda IM i had to realize that it was blocking the settlers 4 installer form starting, a strange thing indeed.

what i just realized is, the intel cpu you are using, does it have an integrated graphics chip? maybe the system wants to use that instead of the geforce card because its thinking the game doesnt really need an external card for running this game. like the way nvidia optimus or the amd pendant work in notebooks, but i dont know if this also applies to desktop pcs.

Hmm... That could be a possibility Oedi, regarding the processor. Though I highly doubt it.
Going to look into that when it comes back from rep late next week.

I will come back to this when I get the PC back.
Thanks for your input Oedi =)

have you tried deactivating the intel gpu unit in bios/uefi?
I'm having this same problem with Settlers II 10th Anniversary. Is this related to the Settlers III issue? Do they use similar engines?
