I bought the entire Settlers bundle during the after-party sale, and installed the Gold and Anniversary editions of Settlers 2. However, when I try to play the campaign of either, the game eventually crashes. It takes more time to do so in the Gold Edition, but either way, the games crash before I can finish building the woodcutter workshop. I'm playing on Windows 7.

EDIT: It appears that the crash of Settlers 2 was a one-time thing, but the anniversary edition keeps doing it.

I just recently bought the 10th anniversary edition and this is also happening to me. The game randomly crashes and exits back to windows without any error messages.

Can anybody help?
Just some proof it is working on Windows 7 64bit.
We had a long weekend and I got the game running for hours over hours with extreme builds.

For example on this dragon map from the campaign (like it): gathering every last drop of resources from the map and end up with ~10000 sorts of food (bread, pork etc.), military strengths of 2000+, 1000+ produced coins and still ~700 gold in the storage, about 4000 coal in the storage etc. with no crash at all.

The only annoying thing is the desktop integration. If you click too close to the border of the screen, you drop back to desktop and minimize the game. The game pauses, you can maximize and continue without problem.

@disi, Okay thanks for that encouragement. I know I already did the compatibility mode but I'll try it again this weekend and see if it will solve my problem.

Btw, does anybody know if it matters if I set the compatibility mode on the shortcut key or on the main program?

I usually remove this 'run as administrator', set for nearly all GOG titles.

If you set it on the shortcut to the executable, it will show for the file as well. No difference.
