Hello Every one !

I dont know how many of you guys out there use windows 8.
But i wondering if there are any more people than me that want gog to fix/patch Settlers IV.
So it works on windows 8 also. it shouldent be impossible for them to do right ?

I was thinking that if we get enough people that wish for Settlers IV on windows 8.
That GoG mabey will make it work on windows 8 for us Settlers nerds. :-)
Becuse Settlers II and III works on windows 8 so why shouldent Settlers IV ?

I get " fatal error 0x0000005 at 0x72918563 " when im trying to start it

And when im trying compatible mode it gets an error for software 3D and Hardware 3D...

Maybe there are issues with some graphic cards (I have one from Nvidia) and that's the reason why it hasn't been labeled as compatible with Windows 8.

It generally works just fine on Windows 8. Are you playing on an older laptop or something? Might want to post your system specs here so we can see whether that's were the issue lies.

I'm not running on an older laptop or something.

My computer specs
intel core i5-3570k cpu @ 3.4GHz 3.8 GHz Turbo
16GB ram
64bit windows 8.1
nvidia geforce 780 GTX
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H motherboard

The computer spec should be just fine

look all i have done is installing the game from gog and compatible mode.

Hello everyone :)

First of all, I am sorry for my bad english. I am still learning this beautiful language!

I found a simple solution to play The Settlers 4 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD graphics card.
You only have to follow the video on this site step by step and build a DXGL:
www. williamfeely. info/wiki/DXGL (remove the space!)

Afterwards look for the dxglcfg and klick on it. Then add the S4 application and change the compatibility mode into "Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
After than you only have to start the game by clicking on the S4.exe.

This takes only a few minutes :)
I hope I could help those people who had the same problem and please tell me if it worked at your computer.

Edith: I forgot to say that you have to change the "Landscape Engine" into Software. Otherwise the map texture is black!
