Hi all,

Recently bought Settlers 2 from GOG after originally owning it on disk a long time ago and I have a question about sound effects. It seems that many of them don't play all the time the event happens, e.g. I only hear the stonecutters axe pick sound once during his entire cycle when he actually hits the rock many times. Meanwhile I hear birdsong (a lot) so it might be something about a limit of concurrent sound effects that can play. I don't remember this being an issue when I played it originally and I'm wondering if it's something to do with the DOXBox emulation that's used.

Does anyone know if there's a way to have all the sound effects play properly?

I don't have a solution but I definitely have the same problem. In my case it is not limited to "ambient" sounds (woodcutters, stonemasons, etc.). Some notification sounds (e.g., when a military building is occupied) are also not played from time to time.

Sorry for necroing your thread without offering a solution, but I thought it deserved to be bumped.
I just wanted to try bumping this to see if anyone else had this problem. I noticed on YouTube playthroughs of the Ubisoft History Edition that this problem doesn't occur, e.g. you can hear all the hammer noises from builders, chopping noises from woodcutters etc.

I've tried fiddling around with the sound devices endlessly but haven't found a solution - it seems like this might be a problem specific to the GOG Gold Edition..?

on windows 10, check your default sound output device. Mine was changed (no idea why) and i missed all sound. resetting the default device to my speakers fixed the problem.
