I've been addicted to Settlers 2 for a few days do, and am currently playing chapter 4 "On the high seas".
Now I have played that chapter for 2 hours 46 minutes, but unfortunately, at that point the game freezes.
The problem doesn't seem to be related to any savegame, because I have tried playing up to that point in time 3x now, but it didn't make any difference.

I have worked my way through the troubleshooting advice for Windows, which means I have made sure my PC is running with the latest video and audio drivers, no Windows upgrades are missing... I have also downloaded the DIrextX file that was recommended. I have tried different screen resolutions - no change. Finally, I have fiddled around with various Graphic Mode Setup options. OpenGL got me to 2:49 instead of 2:46, but then the same problem occured and the game froze completely.

Is anyone able to help? :( I would greatly appreciate it; thanks in advance! :)

Dang, no one has a fix for this? I'm having the same issue-- the game crashes a few hours into Chapter 4, every time.
Narrowing it down, I am almost positive it is DosBox itself crashing as a result of settings -- I loaded the game manually through a standalone DosBox (DLed directly from the site, not packaged with any game) and was able to play past the crash point.

EDIT: Weirder still-- saving at 2:50 in the manually run game, I loaded up that save in the GoG package and it's been playing fine so far. What could be happening at 2:46/2:49?

DOUBLE EDIT: Spoke too soon, game crashed again around the 3:20 mark in the GoG package.

Bleh, manual DosBox now has the same freeze at this second point. Unfortunate.
