Shepi: Greetings! :)

I have a russian version of the vikings expansion. How can I translate it to english? (I guess i have to set it to ru instead of "de", but what is the code? (instead of 1031) (in regedit)?

I found it : 1049 -> RUssian.
haha didn't know a russian version existed :D
manual procedure should work for you, as you have found out I guess...
Yeah. It works now, and i can play with the game with expansion :D
Is there anyone in the UK willing to sell me their Viking Expansion pack for the 10th Anniversary? I'd rather not try ordering via Amazon in Germany as Google translate isn't do a great job with it.

Did you already look through ebay and the like?

You can switch the language from amazon.de to english. Left of "Hallo! Anmelden Mein Konto" is a globe symbol with DE on it. Click it and select "English - EN".
Now you are on the german amazon website in english language.

Die Siedler II: Die nächste Generation - Gold Edition (This is the base game + addon.)

Die Siedler II: Die nächste Generation (Only base game.)

Die Siedler II - Die nächste Generation Wikinger (Add-On) (Only the addon.)

It doesn't matter if you select [Software-Pyramide], [Green Pepper] or [Exclusive]. All offers are the same game from Ubisoft.

I hope I could help you a bit.
It's hard to find outside Germany, since it is a German add-on. It also seems to be available in Czech, Polish and Russian, but even harder to find I suppose :(

I do seem to remember at one point they (ubi) did plan to release an English version, but canned it for some unknown reason.
Would be nice if GoG picked up the ball and added it as an additional download, then at least one would have the option of legally obtaining it.
Just to vent some hot air...
I was so glad when the 10th anniversary edition was released. I liked part 1-2 but imho part 3 was already getting rather bad (just graphical/ui issues here) - not to mention 4, 5 which have very little in common.
Then came the 10th anniversary edition and the expansion on CD, which I bought shortly after release. A very truthful remake with decent graphics (even today) which could be built on. But actually they didn't built on this but rather left it "unfinished" and went on to make 2 more lousy "sequels".
The only decent successor was Settlers 7 which was a DRM-mess that forces me to play a pirated copy now, even thou I bought this aswell. To make it worse, they made it basically impossible to mod. I still like to play this from time to time. But without any new maps or multiplayer it gets old very fast.
Both settlers online and anteria were just (yet again) additional attempts to make a good but small franchise into a gold-cow that has nothing left in common with what made settlers great in the first place.
I have no idea how many times they have to try and fail to realize that they could make a decent profit if they would just focus on improving a working concept for a small audience, instead of spending all that money into transforming it into a completely new franchise.

As i already said, 10th anniversary and Settlers 7 were good sequels imho. Afaik the developers of these 2 games are/were very proud of their work and would've liked to continue. If publishing and maintenance wasn't handled so badly I'm sure they would've even made (more) profit and most fans would be fine.

Instead, I doubt they will return to the original franchise at all in the forseeable future when they clearly destroyed most of the assets they had. Incompetent capitalism at its finest...

Now excuse me, I have to install a language pack and look for a random source for vikings after i gave away my CD (to a possibly new young fan) and bought 10th anniversary on GOG without looking into the details...

@DarkjeThe2nd: Do you still have that english patch somewhere?

Looks like Ubisoft decided to update their forums and prune every old post thereby.
I searched around the web, but it looks like that old post was the single source.

I got the old discs still (hooray for hording those classics) and also own the gog version. So if it's just moving and modding files around, you might just repost what to do. If you still remember ... :-)

Otherwise, well, I just have to play it in german, though I usually prefer english.

I also stumbled upon this issue of the old forums being gone when trying to figure out how to play the Vikings addon in English.

Is it the file called "vikings-english-installer1.2.exe"? No idea if it's the correct one or most updated one, but it's about 120 MB big if that helps.
