Hey! I know this isn't about any Settlers game GOG is selling, but the forum's called"Settlers series", so I thought I'd share this with you guys.

Basically, a new Settlers title has been announced;"The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria".

I'll let the teaser speak for itself, so I'll go ahead and ask you about your opinions. Could this be Settlers 8, or just some spin off title? What do you think about those orcs(I... don't really know it they'd fit that great into this series)? Would you like the gameplay to ressemble an older Settlers title, or, like it has been with every game since V, maybe go a completely different route(I personally am fine as long as it keeps distance from 7)?

Anyway, have fun chatting about the new game!

since there's only a teaser out there is not much to discuss. i hope they will release new information in the coming weeks, maybe at gamescom.

could be a spin-off, could be the next big settlers installment, who knows. they said they're doing something new and i like that, if it can still be called a settlers game. strategy games are quite rare these days and im happy enough bluebyte is making a new game thats not utter browser game bullshit.

keeping distance form part 7? except for Ubisofts UdontPlay service i loved the game, it had a great campaign and the gameplay mechanics were too. played the coop mode a couple of times and had a lot of fun.
every settlers game did something completely different (except part 3/4) and thats a good thing, i had fun with everyone of them, except for part 6, it just didnt get to me in the way the other games did. but it was still a good game (gog should add it to their catalogue)

if they are going to settle in a fantasy-like world, why not. i think the guys at bluebyte know what they are doing. if i want something like the older settler games, i just play them instead, since they are all still running on modern computers.
Well, I opened this thread to also speculate a little... I now realize that I didn't state that, but I thought it was somewhat implicit. Anyway, I am also happy there is actually a new Settlers game even coming out(since 7 appearently sold kinda poorly, and they were seemingly now only focusing on their browser game. Thank goodness they weren't).

Regarding 7... I didn't like that game. Not even a little. It remains the only Settlers game to date I haven't really been able to play nor enjoy. I couldn't dig those mechanics(even though there were good ideas), didn't like how the story was presented, nor the always online requirement(there we agree, I see) or even the DLC policy. Also, not even having a proper map editor was a huge throwback. I see where they were going, but I wouldn't like to see something like that again. So, as long as they stay away from it, it'll be fine for me.
But honestly, they've been making new gameplay for every game in the series since V, so they will probably do that again(III and IV were pretty similar, that's right, but I and II were also pretty much the same, even if II did change the formula a little and add tons of new things and improving much more than IV did to III).

And I was really just fantasizing a little in regards of"older"gameplay; I know they are not going to do that, but anyway, it would be definitely great if they remade either III or IV, like they did with II. Sure, the older games are awesome(actually, IV is in my personal Top 3 of favourite games of all time, and every time I have to reinstall a new computer I install the game before an AV; I made a blog, I tried to help create mods for it... Put simply, I love that game), but they are showing a little bit of age right now; Settlers IV had problems with higher resolutions(unless you really know what you are doing), the graphics, though beautifully made, are just low res, it doesn't seem to run that well on Windows 8(if not at all)...

Sure, playing the old games is the best way to experience them, but as time goes on they'll get more and more dated until they become such a bother to install or get running that people will eventually forget about them(not everyone knows how to use a Virtual Machine). I am not one of them, and will probably even teach my children how to play Settlers IV... But a remake would be awesome(even if it was III). Or at least a newer game ressembling their gameplay.

For some reason it does look like a trailer for a MMO, doesn't it? Maybe with some Building-City elements, since they're paying the man with a gem...
well well, obviously Settlers 8 is a complete and utter failure.
dont get me wrong, im not a die hard "settlers 2 is the only settlers game worth playing" fan. i played and loved every title execpt part 1 as it was before my time.

the new game is a mixture of browser game and action rpg mechanics. you have a home settlement which you can expand to your liking. most funny thing about it is it cannot be attacked, because ubisofts researchers have uncovered that players hate it when their home base is attacked (dafuq³). the graphics also just dont look good. i dont know, maybe its not my style but even settlers 7 looked way better.
you can start missions and go there with some heroes which you control like in an isometric action rpg, or more 3rd person from what i have seen.
there is more information on the web, but thats the important stuff i guess.

but wait, theres more.
so whats the really, really cool stuff?

always-on Udontplay drm for singleplayer with strong hints to an ingame shop for microtransactions. how can you possibly not LOVE that?

Settlers stopped being Settlers a very long time ago. But for all the crap that Ubisoft has turned into, I'm glad they remade Settlers 2, as it's a wonderful game.

What happened to the gaming industry? :(
