Hi, I recently bought Settlers 2, and I love the game but I have a problem, the game stutters when I move the mouse.
It's weird because it only happens when I move the mouse by itself, if I use the right button to move around the map it works fine.
I've already tried all the graphic options and starting the game as administrator and it always happens.
Although it's kind of annoying it's not enough to spoil this great game, but I was still wondering if it had happened to anybody and if they knew a way to fix it, so that I can enjoy it has I did when as younger.

Hi.

I believe that the problem is not stutter, but simply screen tearing. It is caused by lack of vsync. I have not found any solution to it yet.
do you have the same/similar problem in other games which use dosbox or only s2?

for example you could try running the s2 map editor and see if the problem exists then too.
Definitely, it is present in s2 editor as well. However, i figured how to make it less annoying - enabling double buffering in dosbox config file makes it somewhat less significant (but it still persists).

does the problem exist both in full screen and windowed mode? you could try changing from overlay (i think this was the default setting in output) to opengl or ddraw
I've experienced this problem as well. For me, the solution was to run it with the newest version of DOSBox (0.74), instead of version 0.73 which is what's packaged with the game download. Hope this helps.

Edit: Weird sentence structure.

@Maurizio84

yes, problem affects both fullscreen mode and windowed mode. I have already tried changing output settings, to find out that 'overlay' with double buffer on works best. However there is still some screen tearing present.

@DMWech

Unfortunately, I can't tell the difference after updating DosBox to latest version. Could you possibly post your config file for S2 here?
Sure, no problem.

S2 Config
I have the same problem. The game and music slows to a crawl if I move the mouse really fast without stopping. Even moving it normally is bad and makes the game unplayable for me.

Tried 0.73, 0.74. and 0.74 SVN Daum. Also tried changing the config file such as surface, overlay & opengl.

It is very easy to reproduce this problem if you have it. Simply move the mouse fast in-game in a infinity-symbol (a lying 8). It doesn't slow down as much, if at all if you just move it up-down or left-right.
I'm having this problem after a couple of minutes of playtime - it doesn't seem to be connected to mouse movement, the entire game (graphics, sounds) just slows down shortly after I've started a mission. There is no screen tearing per se, the entire game just starts to stutter and the mouse pointer flickers in and out of existence.

I'm not really familiar with DOSBox and the configuration options it offers, and hoped purchasing the game on here would take care of the whole configuration side for me. I don't even understand all the different options I can choose from the Graphics Options launcher. Can someone tell me what they do, and how I can enable Double Buffering and stuff like that?
