Can't get my game controller to work at all in this game? Anyone else?

Generic USB gamepad with twin sticks and a d-pad. Works with any other game except this one. I see no options in the game to set joystick either.

Actually found my answer. Most people who want to use a controller in this game, from what I have been reading in other forums, have to use some type of controller emulation like x360ce. Unbelievable in this day and age a dev would not code controller support into a modern game. Every other game I play works with my controller on my laptop.

Update: So x360ce works for me. This should have been implemented in-game.

There's different controller standards. Some games support several standards, some only one. Older games usually require DirectInput, "modern" ones use XInput (like this game). So a controller that only sends DirectInput signals can't be used and musts be converted with the tool you mentioned.
XInput is also currently about to be replaced by a new standard called GameInput.

And there's now controllers like the Sony ones that don't support neither of these standards.
