Hi, I don't know anything about computer but wish to buy the Longest journey on gog. I've got a computer with windows 7. Will it work on it without any complicated setting ? Thanks so much... and please, please, answer in VERY simple and easy to follow langage !

It's not yet listed as compatible and some people (using the 64bit version) claim to have minor issues. Also - as a last resort you may have to temporarily install older graphical drivers... but ultimately, let me put it like this: if you want to play TLJ, this is the most compatible version you are going to get. Eventually it will get retested and either tweaked or simply certified for Win7 compatibility here, so if there are some issues, they'll get ironed out.

I've tried it on two of my PCs, both Win7 (32 and 64 bit respectively) and had no problems whatsoever. I can't vouch for your particular build, but I encourage you to give it a shot, because, frankly, the game is worth the risk.

Also - if you try it - post the results, so that future buyers can make even more informed decisions.

On Win7 32-bit it worked flawlessly for me. I installed it in a folder different than the suggested one, so I didn't have to run it with administrative priviliges.

I installed it fine on my brand new (less than a week old!) Windows 7 machine, not changing anything, and it works absolutely fine.

Never even occurred to me that it may not work, to be honest!

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I wanted to say that I'm using 64-bit Win7, and it doesn't seem to be working for me. It's like I'm trying to run it on a Pentium 2. If you're running 64-bit, I'd say beware.

What kind of problems are you having? I did a play through on a 64-bit system with no issues. Looks like Vestin managed a 64-bit rig too.

It's just absurdly slow, to the point of being completely unplayable. Looking a little further, I don't think the problem is with Win7 64 bit specifically so much as it's incompatible with NVidia. The only solution I can find is to roll back drivers, and I honestly don't think it's worth it.
So, it's worth correcting my previous post. And I think I read somewhere, maybe somewhere else on this forum, heck maybe even in this thread, that Gog does actually warn you that that will be a problem. So, the lesson here is not to ignore those warnings.

With my old notebook, when it was running on batteries the game lagged even on Windows XP. It had something to do with energy saving by the GPU. Disabling this feature made it work. Maybe you have a similar issue?

I have an NVidia too, and didn't have video issues.

I don't think it's all NVidia cards, it's just something that I read. Mine is GeForce GTS 250.

It's a desktop, so it's not a battery issue.

I'll look into it later, though. Maybe the problem is that my drivers are too old, not too new. I haven't updated them since I got the computer about a year and a half ago.

Well, it didn't occur to me because I rarely use Windows; I'm usually in Ubuntu. And I thought that the game is old enough that that wouldn't be an issue.

But, yes, it turns out that's the problem, now that I got around to updating the drivers. If there's a dunce hat for a profile picture, I should use it.

I don't know if anybody might be interested, but this is what happened: On the Longest Journey forum (the official, not the Gog forum), this was listed as an NVidia problem, with the solution being to roll back drivers to older versions. These were listed in 2009; it didn't occur to me at first that drivers newer than that would correct whatever problem came up then. So, apparently, there's a series of drivers that don't work with this game, but that problem is fixed in the latest ones.

So, then, if anybody finds this forum through Google or something, just be aware that what's listed in those forums is moot because the drivers more recent than that work fine.

I have win-7 Longest journey works ok once u change in compatibility mode I also found an app from iOBit.com called Game Booster where u can switch off processes etc works quite well I found.
