Hiya, I've recently purchased the longest journey as my mum is a big fan and hasn't played it in over 10 years. I don't know if this is a compatibility issue because of how old the game is or because I downloaded the Polish version of the game, but whenever a cutscene plays the screen goes black, despite the game itself functioning properly. The sound still seems to work during the cutscenes, but personally I didn't get far into the game so I don't know if this changes later on or not.

I tried some solutions that I found online but no luck, this might've been because they were for Windows 8 and earlier and I have Windows 10? If so, does anyone have any updated solutions to this problem?

Thanks for the help in advance! :)

Try to run TLJ with ResidualVM, someone posted that it fixed the black cutscene problem:

Oh okay, thank you! Will give it a go and see if it works. Is there a tutorial somewhere on how this works so that I don't accidentally mess up my gaming files somehow?
You don't change any game files, all safe =)

- put the ResidualVM-files to a seperate folder somewere.
- start ResidualVM (needs some seconds sometimes)
- press "Add new game"
- select the game folder of "The Longest Journey", for example "D:\games\The Longest Journey\"
- at the next screen, check the "game" tab. At the top you see the "ID" of TLJ. You need this ID later to start TLJ without seeing the ResidualVM window every time.
- check the "graphics" tab, fullscreen should be selected.
- press "ok" at´ the bottom and close ResidualVM.
- done.

now create a shortcut to residualvm.exe and add the ID.
this is my shortcut for example:
...\ResidualVM\residualvm.exe --no-console tlj-win-de
your shortcut should be a bit different cause you play the polish version (tlj-win-pl ?)

I recommend the HD-Mod for TLJ, the graphic is much better.
Download the HD mod here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-longest-journey-hd/downloads/tljhd

- Unzip the files.
- Open the TLJ gamefolder and create a new subfolder called "mods".
- Open the "mods" folder and create a new subfolder called "TLJHD".
- Copy the content of the unzipped HD mod into the new "TLJHD" folder. For example: The HD-mod folder "global" should be here now:
...\The Longest Journey\mods\TLJHD\global\

Done.

Hi, how to add the game folder? In my case, when I try to add gog version of the game, I get the following error message "ScummVM could not find any game in this folder"
ResidualVM uses a hard-coded list of supported TLJ-versions. So I would try the latest "daily" version. Or you could try ScummVM (has been merged with ResidualVM). Maybe one of both works.
