Chapter 4 - Monster - just gone back to Arcadia and entered a tavern.

There I talked to an old woman.

After that, nothing.

It being late, I thought that you might have to sleep in the chair before waking the next morning. However, April merely comments that said chair "looks very comfy". Beyond that there's no interraction.

Having paced about this single room for far too long, I raise my hands, admit that I'm stuck, and reluctantly consult an online walkthrough.

It seems that I'm supposed to "talk to Abnaxos when he enters". Only after having talked will April finally turn in for the night.

But, returning to my save and waiting around like a simpleton, I find that nobody enters the room.

I am thus forced to conclude that this is some sort of bug and that April will be stuck for a grim infinity in this admittedly cozy tavern until Abnaxos enters. Which, of course, he never will.

I saved my game right after having spoken to the woman. I am, therefore, stuck.

Has anybody else encountered this problem?

Is there some kind of patch I can install which will force Abnaxos to pop in?

Or, failing that, has anybody any save points from either the start of chapter four or the end of chapter three?

The alternative - to start the game from scratch - doesn't bear thinking about. I know that I'm still not very far, but I'm already engrossed!

Any help would be appreciated vastly.

Post your save, I'll see what can be done. Maybe there's a little trigger you've missed...

Try talking to the inkeeper again. Go over all dialogue options. If it still doesn't work try to have April examine evrything in the room.

If it's a glitch i do have a couple of saves from Ch4, although none from the very beginning. And no CH3 saves unfortunately.
I ran into this bug, although fortunately I had a save before entering the inn and reloading from there caused things to work properly the second time through. Unfortunately all chapter 4 saves I had are long gone, so hopefully someone else will have a save that may be useful for you.

And remember the general rule of saving: save early, save often, and have multiple saves.
Talked to everyone, interracted with everything, even took to standing in the kitchen repeatedly pressing escape (time skip) for a bit - but nothing happened, nobody came.

I've a terrible habit of overwriting saved games because it saves space. It never registers that we're talking KBs when it comes to save files. As a result, I'm really stuck. I suppose my only option is to start again, from scratch. Heigh-ho.

Thanks anyway, though, guys.

Will a save from the beggining of CH3 do ?

Edit:

Well, this is the best i can do for now.

I went over all my saves on my PC's where i have/had TLJ installed and i really don't have an adequate save. The closest one i found was from mid CH2. I played that one to the very beginning of CH3 and made a new save there.

Here's the link for that save, beginning of CH3, hope it helps a bit.

Pitty that there are so many saves on the web but most of them don't work due to versions incompatibility.

Aw, would that I'd seen your post a little earlier. Would have saved me some time.

Thanks very much all the same, but I just took to playing through the game again. When, finally, I got back up to the spot where previously I had been stuck, I was very diligent with saves.

Sure enough, this time Abanaxos entered more or less instantly. I am, therefore, now able to proceed happily.

Thanks again, though, to anyone who attempted to help me.

Let this be a lesson to everyone! It's inadvisable to have but one save game repeatedly overwritten.

For us adventure gamers, the Sierra days of dead ends and sudden deaths appear to be long gone. However, as I have learned, it's still very possible to find yourself stuck.

So! Dilligence from now on.

I'm just happy that I can now continue playing.
Ah yes, the 'save early, save often' motto still applies. Also, don't trust quick saves and whatever you do don't overwrite your saves ;)

Good to know you can move on, TLJ is an amazing game, i'm sure you'll enjoy the rest.
My game crashes at the end of chapter 3 and it won't start chapter 4. I had someone send me some saved games after this but I get an error about not enough bytes left in buffer. Can someone please help me?
