We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

General:

Crash with Police Station:
You'll need a patch (ask GoG Support or or [url=http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/619136/Police%20Station%20Fix%20v2.zip]here)

Missing/See Through Textures:
Turn off hardware acceleration. (It will look bad but it will work.)

Use Hardware Acceleration On Modern Cards:
There is a wrapper called dgVoodoo2 which can help, please note that it has some issues of it's own (temporarily will leave little mouse trails on the screen, as of dgVooDoo v2.53.) If you want to give it a go, a guide is at the end of this post.

Font is hard to read:
You can edit the file gui.ini to use different sizes/font styles.
Be sure to backup your gui.ini file first!

Additional help tips can be found at PC Gaming Wiki.

Windows 10:

Blank Exit Box:
You'll need an unofficial patch from .or [url=http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/619137/Windows%2010%20Fix%20-%20blank%20exit%20box.zip]here.
Alternatively you can just exit with ALT-F4.

Start Menu:
Some users report issues using the start menu option created by GoG's installer. Running "game.exe" (or making a shortcut to game.exe) from the installation directory works fine.

Problems Saving:
You may need to run the game with Windows user administrator rights.

Setting up dgVoodoo with Longest Journey
(Attached images show dgVoodoo configuration screens.)

1. You'll need to download and install dgVooDoo.
2. Run dgVoodoo Setup/Configuration Tool

A. On the initial configuration screen:
Add your Longest Journey folder for "config folder/ running instance"
Output API: "Best available one"
Adapter to use/enable: select your GPU.
Appearance: Full Screen, scaling mode "Stretched, keep aspect ratio"
Full Screen Output: Default
Miscellaneous: Both checked.
Color adjustments: Defaults or change to taste.

B. Switch to the "DirectX" tab.
Videocard: Select "ATI Radeon 8500" with 256MB VRAM (this is an emulated display)
Texturing: Force bilinear filtering, all others unchecked
Behavior: All unchecked
Miscellaneous: All unchecked except "force vSync"
Antialiasing (MSAA): None (You can also choose 4x or 8x but you'll get brief mouse trails.)
Resolution: This is a bit tricky, it needs to be a multiple of the game's native resolution (640x480), failure to do this will leave text trails. (For example: 1280x960 will work but 1280x1200 will not.)

C. Click Apply

3. Copy the DLL folders from dgvoodoo's "MS" folder to your Longest Journey folder.

Important:

With this setup you can run Longest Journey with hardware acceleration enabled as it's using the emulated card.

You will want to make sure for Longest Joruney that your video card driver has anti aliasing disabled at the driver level. (Let the emulated card do it.)

Ensure "High resolution April Model" is enabled in the game.

Other Tweaks:
If you use dgVoodoo2, you can also use ReShade to add post processing effects such as Lens Flare, Bloom, SMAA/FXAA and other effects. Unfortunately ReShade is not as easy to set up as it should be.

UPDATED: Fixed added mirrors without requiring e-mail addresses.

Cool. All bugs and solutions for TLH in one place.

The only bug I encountered myself was white "yes/no" box, though.
This is a great post!

But please add...

On Windows 10, I could only get the game to start via the launcher in the root directory-- trying to start from within GOG does NOT work. I didn't need admin rights or compatibility mode, just had to start from the windows folder directly.

Some of the other info is outdated. The link to the Windows 10 exit game fix is dead, for example.

Also Alt-F4 is not recognized for my version, but using Task Manager (and closing all 3 Longest Journey processes) does the trick. Just use ctrl-alt-delete and select "Task Manager". Might seem a bit scary for those not familiar with using this tool, but task manager only closes running processes in -memory-. You can't harm your Windows installation by using it, even if you cause your computer to crash/reboot by accidentally shutting down the wrong thing.

Links should be fixed.
Thanks, Skolia.

I don't trust giving out my email address to filehosting companies, though!

But it appears you can use temporary email services such as http://www.throwawaymail.com to get the download link.

Found mirrors for the files that don't require e-mail addresses.

I tried to set it up exactly as you did, but everything is very dark as you can see in the attachment.
When not using it, everything is fine. Any idea? I'm using an RX 480.

Wow that is dark, are you using the dgVoodoo2 program? Can you screenshot or write down your settings?

There is no need to use task manager to shut the game. Although the question box appears empty it is still there and it works so you can simply press Y to answer yes and game shuts down.
Windows 10: Blank Exit Box

In addition to ALT-F4 you may use CTRL-Q to immediately quit within the game. In both cases the blank exit box appears which you need to confirm by typing 'y'. The game exits to the desktop.
I seem to have found the problem. When starting the game I have to select 16 Bit colors.
Now I just have a problem with the mouse cursor which make the background wobble and sometimes leaves a trail.
Also the aspect ratio is wrong, but I can fix this by setting my screen to 4:3.
