Hi I have windows 7 I believe 64-bit. I have the 2 disk version and it was suffering from some horrid lag issues even the title sequence took 5 minutes to get through. I bought and downloaded the GOG version thinking it would work like a charm, but I can't even get past the prologue without the game crashing just after the old woman starts speaking. Is there a fix?

Have you tried compatibility mode? I remember having a crash in the program (4 CD retail) that was alleviated by using compatibility mode.
