Hi everyone, I recently started playing Longest Journey for the first time. It works fine except for when a cutscene ends the game crashes. I have not seen this problem mentioned elsewhere. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or at least where I could find a possible workaround?
thnx K bye.

crimsnking: ...
Have you already tried running the game in Compatibility mode for 640x480. (Right-click the game's shortcut and set the option on the Compatibility tab)
I'm having trouble, too. When I enter the police station, it crashes. I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit with a Nvidia Geforce GPU (Yes, I confess. I have an Alienware Alpha). Ram is 8GB, by the way. Tinkering with compatility settings like the resolution hasn't helped.
Crashes on cutscenes: (tested on GOG and czech 4CD -> both are versions 1.42, 2000): The W8.1 (32bit) is an elegant solution. (on W7 Professional 32bit I had no problem):

1) Run a PC movie in VLC Player -> Pause the movie (not off!) -> minimize (leave behind).
2) Start the game (No need to change any other settings) and play!

I know that this strange solution, but it worked reliably than experiment with the settings and patches.

Ah damn, the same old police station crash bug from 15 years ago. Dammit.

If standa.e's tips don't help:

You'll miss a really great additional character, but the workaround is the same as 15 years ago:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO ENTER THE POLICE STATION THAT WAY.

Find another entrance. :)

Another solution to the Police Station crash is simple (at least when you are on MS Windows PC.)

Find the installation folder of the longest journey.

Find the folder named station_fix Read the readme_first.txt file.

Then run the file named TLI_PoliceStationFix.exe

Solved this issue for me each time I reinstalled and played the game on different PCs.

I have the same problem, cut scenes crash the game. Very frustrating.

It's asking for disc 2 when I try to do that.

Try start some video on VLC and pause. Start TLJ and play.. It helps with W8.1, maybe this will help you too.
I have done it. finally Went back to playing after a while. The fix I used was 5 10 hour YouTube videos muted. From what I understand the game crashes if memory usage dips below 5 percent so just crank up other stuff and it should work i guess.
I don't know. Maybe?
This is without a doubt the strangest bug I have encountered in games.

Exact same issue. Using windows 10. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

This is not a solution that works for the bug getting in to the police station.

This worked to fix the problem for me on a Windows 8.1 machine ...

If you are running the game on a PC with multiple cores, change the "target" in the launch shortcut to the following.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 3 game.exe

(Obviously you need to make sure the paths are correct for your environment.)

This will tell the game to utilize only cores zero and one. Apparently, the game has issues with there being too many cores on modern machines. I tried using only one core and that was not sufficient. Two seems to do the trick.

Oh my God. I can't believe this actually worked. Thank you!
