Introversion tweeted this morning:
Just recorded a massive video for The Last Starship Alpha 2 with Chris & Mark, which is due to be released next Thursday 30th March. We hope you love the new features!

The Alpha 2 update video is listed on Introversion's YouTube page as releasing this Thursday. The video has a preview thumbnail, as YouTube videos generally do. We're having a discussion on the Discord server about what some of the items shown in the thumbnail might be.

The updated news on the game's main menu confirms the alpha drops at the same time as the update video, which is 3:00 PM GMT.
