Saw this posted in another thread and I had the same problem:
Could not log in or save progress. Got an "Installed to Read only Location" error.
Solved by right clicking shortcut, clicking properties, compatibility tab, then checking box to run in compatibility mode for Win 98 as well as checking the "Run as administrator" box.

You can avoid this issue by installing the games to another location that is not the default.
i.e. C:Games as an example. Most new os's right protect the default install except for administrators. Always install someplace else and you will be ok.
