Hey TheJoe,
you made it! You're mentioned in this newspost: http://www.gog.com/en/news/nordic_games_up_to_70_off
:D

"[...] TheJoe's most favourite The Guild: Gold Edition (from $2.99) [...]"
Wishlisted for a long while, promo today. I like these kind of games. Sorry to say, I saw your post after buying :(
Because you told me to! :)
I figured if I had it you would leave me alone ;-)
It's on sale and highly recommended by many.

Beginning the tutorial soon - happy gaming! =)
I already had it on my "will buy" list, like e whole lot of GoG's game catalogue.. but i guess the Reviews helped me decide to get it sooner (that and some sale or other bringing the price down to just about what i had available at the time, i think?).

And am i glad i own it now :)

I had the disk of this game for years. I have played it off and on but always seemed to have problems now and then. I never had the X Pack.

The game is so wonderful i cant even explain it. There are not enough games like this around these days. If you are even slightly interested then buy this game now.

I have been watching this game for a while and the sale is what made me pull the trigger. Sales are what always make me pull the trigger though.

Buy this game and enjoy it for a long time.
I played it years ago when it first came out, that's how I played it :p. Reason I got it, because it was unique, and the game descriptions made me want to play it. A computer game the way they use to be made. It sounded so cool, and by George, it was cool!

Guild 2 is just as good, but get Renaissance, the others are obsolete. The developers continued to update it, even though the publisher doesn't pay them for it. And by George, that one is cool too!
I bought it as a CD mag supplement years ago and loved it. It's a highly addictive game. And since I prefer digital copies to hard copies, I instantly went for GOG version & ditched the physical one.

I was super bored one day (a little over a decade ago) and went to the local gaming store to buy a new game. Ran into one with an interesting name and cost ~$1-2.

Came home and started it up. Wasted sooo many hours on this game back then lol.

Decided to buy it again on GoG because I lost my discs. :(
I bought it because the description (and the reviews/praise/boards) made this game sound like something that I definitely should try - one of those "awesome underdog" type games, complete with so many features that the devs couldn't fix the bugs fast enough for release. ;)

Love it though, still haven't seen all the possibilities. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is that the town "meetings" are only for electing/firing, and not voting on particular laws (different laws are instead entrusted entirely to individuals). The only reason it doesn't bother me a lot is because I know how to use blackmail... ;)

Also, zombie workers.

OK I didn't know that there WERE zombie workers when I bought the game, but they're cool and amusing.

Actually I think the drawcard was the thieves/robbers - despite their crap RTS battle controls, I'd much rather attack/plunder then create/sell, at least in games... The fact that you could make thievery/etc. actually legal in your town was another awesome tidbit I didn't find out until later... ;)
I already have the german cd-version of this game. But it was always a hassle installing the game from cd and getting the latest patch. Also i tend to switch to the english version in most games i own, even if a german version is available.

So one day i just decided to buy this from GOG, english version and no hassle with CD and patch anymore - and it was cheap enough.

Also regarding the name:
The original german name for the game is "Die Gilde: Gold" (The Guild: Gold), the international/english version was released later and was called: "Europe 1400: The Guild" so that may be where the name change came from. Renaming the english version to the translation of the original title.
Yeah, I'm converting my CD library to digital. This game is awesome. Just when you think you've gotten good at one part of it (crafting, say), there's another whole new thing to learn (politics, say). And just when you think you've ALMOST got it... you die. And have to start again. Hope you educated your kid!

And then you finally build a castle and spend the next few game years blowing buildings up just because you can... ;)

TheJoe: Also, the original title of the game is Europa 1400. I'm not actually really sure why GOG rebranded it to The Guild.
The german name of the game (german developer and austrian publisher) was "Die Gilde" which is exactly "The Guild" I even was under the impression it would had been sold under this translated title, I'm surprised it was indeed named "Europa 1400" in non-german-speaking countries.
