Alt-tab is disabled in The Guild, presumably because GOG felt it would cause problems. It works absolutely fine for me (Windows 7) so I don't see why it wouldn't work fine for you.

You're going to have to edit the registry to do this, as alt-tab is disabled via gogwrap.exe's registry settings.

So:
Start - Run - regedit

Navigate to:
(32-bit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\GOG.com\GOGTHEGUILDGOLD
(64-bit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WoW6432node\GOG.com\GOGTHEGUILDGOLD

Double click DISABLEALTTAB and simply change true to false.

Screenshot attached in case you're a little lost.

You will now be able to alt-tab from The Guild. Alt-tabbing also automatically pauses the game.

Remember to test before doing this in a full game. GOG disabled alt-tab for a reason and it might crash your game.

Thank you very much. It was annoying me quite a bit.

You're such a regedit wizard baller!

I do not have the disablealttab in mine? unless I'm doing something horribly wrong, could I get any help with that?
I don't have it either. I checked, and I DO have this value for some other games, but not this one. And yet... I can't alt-tab...
If it's not there then first of all make sure you look under
GOGTHEGUILDGOLD
And not
GOGPACKTHEGUILDGOLD

You might also want to make sure you have the latest installer.

I very quickly made a tiny program that will toggle the registry key for you, if it's there. If it's not there it will tell you that. Hopefully. https://db.tt/KzH8adHi

Btw, there are two shortcuts. The one with "TnL" on the end is the vanilla link that doesn't have the GOG changes. The one without "TNL" disables alt-tab and does some other stuff. One works better on some systems, the other works better on other systems.

To those who do not want, or cannot for whatever reason edit their registry, CTRL+ALT+DEL does work. Though you'll have to close your Task Manager, it minimizes the game. I have only had my game freeze up once due to this, and it gets done often, and for hours sometimes. Just quick save first.
Apparently the solution is no longer to edit the registry, since the keys are not present. The new solution which I found from other GOG games is to open a command prompt, and run this command from the Guild Gold directory:

c:\windows\system32\sdbinst.exe -u gog_the_guild.sdb

I also edited the game.ini file to change the show_intro flag to 0. Once was enough for the many intro movies.

We'll see about crashing frequency from enabling alt-tab, no doubt they had it disabled for a good reason. I suggest Quick-Save before alt-tab.
