Renaissance isn't on GOG, but it's said to be the most patched version of Guild II. However, is there anything in Guild II Ren that makes it worth it over Guild?

asked and answered :] Pasted the links below in case they might help someone else.

My favourite is Guild. :p
Watched some gameplay videos, and Guild Pirates looked the most appealing, which I am told is buggy despite some patches. That's effing lame, but it has been awhile, so maybe the situation has improved?

Stick to Europa 1400. Still the best in the series. And the most polished. Guild 2 had a ton of potential, but Jowood was about to crash at that time. Fallouts with the original devs, money problems and a few other factor made the whole Guild 2 series a mess. Fans tried hard to repair, but gamebryo it's not exactly an easy engine. Guild 2 and Renaissance are more polished, but they still have a lot of problems. Pirates and Venice have even more problems than those other two.

And check this for Renaissance:

So you're saying The Guild is cool? But it's looks sooooo old :p

I like shiny, new things..

I tried hard to like Guild 2, but it has a lot of unpatched bugs. If you really want a Guild 2 game, go with Renaissance. You have the beta patch ( not sure if it's included in the GOG release ) and the Legacy Mod ( bug fixes, balance tweaks and such )

P.S.: i'll stick to my crappy looking Europa 1400 (Die Gilde). The AI is actually good there and presents a challenge without cheating his way in the game.

And we might have a Guild 3:

See that last announcement.

I have the disc versions for Guild 2, but they are a bit of a pain to make them work in our days. But, despite the many bugs, i still play them. They could have been great if Jowood would have polished them properly.

Oh gosh, you're saying some compelling stuff. Maybe I'll just play my Patrician III and be happy with life. Thanks for the advice!

Don't forget about Port Royale afterwards or, why not, the Anno Domini series ( avoid 2070, though, is riddled with the Ubi DRM )

P.S.: I'd still give a shot to The Guild series. But buy them in a sale. And add the bugfixing mods. I'm angry at the deceased Jowood because they published a rough gem and they treated it like it was dirt. I hope Nordic will do better with the franchise.
