Hello,
I get this error message when I start the game. Curiously enough if I don't close it the game runs fine.

Seems like you can only attach images but this is the first 59 lines of "Launch.log". The remaining 1000 keep complaining about gog galaxy not being initialized.

Hey Jema. The team is really busy with preparations for E3, so you are stuck with me for now (I am the community manager).

This error was happening for years to many people in various games made in different engines.

Have you installed the game through the Galaxy client? Maybe you could try reinstalling it via the standard GOG download?

You could try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime. It fixed the problem for some, but for others it had no effect.

For one person, the error was caused by one particular USB peripheral - https://www.gog.com/forum/postal_series/c_runtime_error

For some it was caused by video card drivers.

There are just too many things that could've caused this error. I will remind the team about this after E3.

Hello,
No worries, I'll hold :).

I'd don't use galaxy (and have no plans too either, sorry gog guys but galaxy and similar services are of no interest to me), reinstalling the runtime didn't help and I havent found any rogue USB devices.

~
I'll add the fix if anyone needs to know. I'm not sure which specific item fixed it because I tried more than one at once but here's the list of things to try from GOG support.

Please follow these troubleshooting steps:
1) Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right-click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator"). If you are using Galaxy, then make sure to run Galaxy as Administrator.

2) Please reinstall the game AND add it to your anti-virus/firewall software's exception/trusted list. Simply disabling firewall or AV software could not be enough, since some of these software are running still in background or in services list. If you are using Galaxy, then please add Galaxy as well.

3) Reinstall the June 2010 DirectX runtime package. You can find the archive file containing the 2010 package installation files here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

You will have to extract the files into some folder, then open that folder and launch the DXSETUP.exe file in order to proceed with the installation.

After that please download and install DirectX Web Installer:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35&e6b34bbe-475b-1abd-2c51-b5034bcdd6d2

Please have in mind that this will only add DirectX 9.0c to available pool of DirectX libraries, and it will not overwrite your other versions. Some games are not able to utilize newer DirectX libraries, and they require DirectX 9.0c.

4) Please reinstall both Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Packages:
x86:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328
x64:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

5) Please try to reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48130

6) Please reinstall OpenAL32 redistributable package:
http://files.gog.com/support/oalinst.zip

7) Do you have GOG Galaxy Client? If yes, then go to the library - > choose the game(in your case: The Deadly Tower of Monsters) - > click MORE - > choose Manage Installation from the drop down menu - > click choose show folder. It should take you to the main directory where the game is located(in my case: C:\GOG Games\The Deadly Tower of Monsters) and try to start the game by opening the file called: Launch The Deadly Tower of Monsters.

Alternatively, in the main directory of the game you can go to Binaries - > Win32 and look for the file TS.exe. Double left-click on that to start the game.
Just an update to my post. The issue with the game I experienced was caused by a corrupted download (possible server issue) and was resolved by downloading the game for a 3rd time. (I downloaded other games at the same time with this each time, no issues with corruption of the other game files) The game starts and runs on Win 10.

Team GoG responded quickly, and offered to refund my purchase without my asking, which under the circumstance (game not even starting) was warranted. However, our shared mission of getting games to run DRM Free, and run on the modern systems is of a primary importance to us all... so I chose to attempt to fix the issue.

When my system is running games like Warhammer 40k Rites of War (installed now, runs best on win 10 without early win systems compatibility settings), Deus Ex Invisible War (installed now) and other games that have issues with Win 10 like Ground Control 1, all start and run successfully, there shouldn't be start up issues with newer games... :/

edited for posterity - old post

Apparently the crash on startup still persists. I've checked for solutions but there aren't any valid fixes to test. I did notice that the Language is set to INT even though it was installed with the English language option using the GoG installer.

I'm definitely not going to re-install all those things the O.P. (original poster) went through just to get this one game to run. I have no issues like this with any other GoG game, Origin or Steam game running on this Win 10 64-bit pc.

It may very well be an incompatibility with the latest Intel Graphics drivers.

For me, it will be easier just to get a refund on the game, perhaps some of you who are still experiencing this crash have opted to do the same thing. However, if there is a valid fix that is buried somewhere in a forum that works, the Ace Team should have made is public by now.
