The game crashed in the middle of the investigation of Episode 2 (right when I inspected the letter on Washington's desk). When I started the game again there were no saves. Both the original save and the backup are corrupted and I don't have the option to load them, so I can't just start from episode 2 with my choices.

Is there any way of recovering progress?

On that note, I find it very odd that there's only a single backup, and it's just the same save as the original. Looks like this problem happened before, adding 3 autosaves and checkpoint saves for each chapter would be an effective fix for this, this would mean replacing the current save slots with "profiles". People can already start from checkpoints from within a save anyway, so nothing is really changed there. Since the game is great I'll start again and just backup manually after every chapter. But let me stress, that is not ideal and it should be fixed. Considering nothing can be skipped I can hardly imagine my reaction if this happened at the beginning of episode 5.
