Hello, people.

I have this issue with the game. On launch, it pops up the "Access violation" error, caused by Gothic II 2.6(fix), wich can't read some stuff.

Have any of you encountered this issue and have any solution for it?

Thanks, Morra.

Have the same issue. launching games as administrator or in compatability mode doesnt solve the problem.
If i try to launch original Gothic 2 Gold GOG then no problem at all, only mod has this "access violation" issue.
For some reason i was not able to open here a topic about it:(

I stopped Access Violation by going into The Chronicles Of Myrtana Archolos/ system/ then opening the SystemPack.ini then changing BorderlessWindow= 0 to 1. Then while running in borderless window mode I changed the resolution to my native screen resolution to fill the screen.

Neither "zStartupWindowd" in Gothic.ini nor the "BorderlessWindow" in SystemPack.ini work. Not even the version downloaded at Moddb. I would say it's kinda bullshit to not have it working with simple "Download-Play" pipeline...

Try to type "Exploit Protection" in the start menu and turn off DEP. It worked for me.

I'm getting the ACCESS VIOLATION right away when a new game is loaded for version 1.0.5. I can get the INTRO video to run completely when I select 1920x1080 for the ingame video resolution. I tried this EXPLOIT PROTECTION then DEP OFF method. Didn't work. Anyway, thanks for sharing your workaround. I'm glad it's working for you.

My system (in case a game developer is paying attention) works great for the X4 Foundations game which I purchased from GOG and have recently played for hundreds of hours:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X Six-Core Processor 3.60 GHz
16 GB ram
Windows 10 Home

Switching BorderlessWindow to 1 enables the game to load, then the bar stops about 1/3, I hear the intro but dont see it, the screen is stuck with the loading-screen. Everything with absolute standard game settings.
zStartupWindowd=1 has the same effect

The recommed "Scale videos" in the games video menu also has no effect.

What else do you need to know in order to help? My system runs on DX12 with a M2200 Quattro.
What worked for me is setting windows 7 compatibility mode and run as administrator in the properties of gothic2.exe.
I never had to use the windowed options. I'm playing in fulscreen.

This works 99,9% of the time. I still sometimes get the error when loading a savegame but it's very rare.

You will also have to do this everytime there's a patch as they always reset the exe.

Neither mod nor patches affect game executable in any way. It might be GOG installers or Galaxy issue.

When you install updates manually ( unpacking archive to the game directory ), you don't need to reset compatibility settings. ;)

So I just have to disable autoupdate and download the patches from moddb?

Yes, if it is more convenient for you. Patches from moddb work just fine.)
Update: Game works now. Just used "Run as admin" and it works.
But adjusting the brightness/gamma etc in-game seems to do nothing oO. Everything else works!

Brightness and gamma settings only work in fullscreen mode. So if your windowed settings are still enabled try disabling them.
Hello and Happy New Year of 2022, everyone!!!

I finally fixed the issue, and so far I got no errors.

The fix was possible when, after reinstalling the mod, with the updated version of .exe(v 1.1.2).
First step was to run it, but that triggered the same error, by the Gothic II - 2.6 (fix).

Next was to
- go straight to "Exploit protection" section of the system settings(serch for "exploit" in the search window), and
-in the "Program settings" tab, you need to "Add program to customize".
-After selecting the .exe, a window will appear with a list of the settings you can customize.
-Scroll down till Data Execution Prevention setting appears, check "Override system settings" and turn it off and apply
(my PC runs the 10 PRO version of windows).

That;s it! Or, that fixed it for me.

-the other tries of setting the .exe as an exception in DEP, via System Proprieties ONLY(right click "ThisPC" or "My comuter" and click "Properties"). didn't work-

So, I hope that works for you too.

That doesn't do anything for my system. Totally useless here.
I have to run the game in window-mode (which is fine under native resolution).
But the brightness is a little bit to high for my liking, making the ingame night to bright... and it seems to be not adjustable in window-mode...bruuh!
