Hey Folks,

just wanted to ask whats the big difference and point in offering the soundtrack in OGG? I don't really hear a difference compared to the MP3-Version. In fact, it's even harder to find a software to play it with.

Could somebody make me smarter?

Thanks,

Alex

I believe It's what was given to GOG by Screen 7. You get the same thing from the 1.4 version patch supplied by them (from this thread).

(for anyone having problems with playing the files in general) As far as software goes, plays audio files nicely, and can play Ogg Vorbis (.ogg) files. [url=https://www.videolan.org/vlc/]VLC Player is also a good all around media player.

Following this:

'the use of MP3 in commercial products requires you to get a licence from Fraunhofer and Thomson Multimedia, who own the MP3 decoding patent. At time of writing, this is a flat fee of $2500 per game, but only if more than 5000 copies are sold. For up-to-date information, check the MP3 licensing website.
The easiest solution is to get the alternative AGS Engine build without the MP3 decoder from the Download page, and use OGG for your music and sound.'

As 1322 mentioned, yes, we got the extended soundtrack in the OGG format from Screen 7 :) We kept it that way so that GOG users would get the exact same OST as anyone else :)

OGGs are about the same as MP3s as far as quality goes and you can change them to whatver you wish using Format Factory or something similar :)
BTW, OGG soundtrack is 320 kbps, as opposed to mp3 192 kbps. even leaving alone fact, that OGG is more efficient (as in "better" - makes better use of same bandwidth) format than mp3, raw bitrate difference doesn't lie, it *have* to be better quality, if your audio equipment is at least decent.

Of course it is free world, but, personally, I don't touch mp3's with a long stick, since at least 5 years (or more, time passes quickly). Thus, I'm *very* glad that publisher (and, by extension, GOG) updated TCL soundtrack to superior format. I hope to see mp3 replaced by OGG whenever possible, as far as GOG's bonus material soundtracks are concerned.
