Hmm, I played The Cat Lady on a laptop (win7) this weekend and brought the save with me back home to continue (on an XP machine), but the game crashes when I try loading it. I get the following error message:

"
An error har occured. Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS.
(ACI version 3.21.1115)

Error: RunAGSGame: unable to load new game file 'CATLAD~1.EXE'
"

Any ideas? I was just starting chapter 5...

jamsatle:
Do you use the same version \ installed the game from the same installer? Savegames aren't compatibile between versions of the game in AGS.
Yeah, same GOG-version in both cases...

Wonder if I could get it working in the desura-version, probably not even worth trying.
Wasn't the installer updated between your two downloads?
Or, if you used the same installer, did you try to save the game in your second playthrough and then replace the save file with the old one?
Ah, didn't notice there was annother reply.

No, I downloaded the installer, brought it with me, installed and played it on a win7 laptop and then when I returned I used the same installer to install it on my winxp machine. Also tried replacing a new save wit the old, but I only get the same error message.

Maybe I should try getting hold of somone else's save from the start of chapter 5...

Ch4 save for you (from the publisher's site):
www.screen7.co.uk/games/thecatlady/savegames/chapter4catinhole.zip
:)
Thanks, will try that one out later today. Might get lucky!

Edit: No luck. Oh well, guess I'll just start from the beginning again some time.

Is there no way to overwrite savefiles? That's really strange.
Hi there, very strange, sorry to hear that.

That's usually an indication that the game itself (EXE) has been updated in some way, usually a graphics update.

But this can't be true, there's only one English version out there. Trying save games made with the Eng version in the Italian or Russian version would likely cause this error, but not if it's purely English version.

I really wouldn't know what to suggest. For me and others save games can be copied, pasted, used, shared etc...

Do you perhaps have some kind of security setting, are you making sure you are running it "as administrator", I don't know how but it seems to solve a lot of problems.

regards!
I find it strange that saving the game is so clumsy in this day and age. Firstly, there's no overwrite feature. Secondly, the number of save files is limited to 50. I hit that limit in Chapter 6 because of the choice & consequence system I encountered early, and had to look for a solution before I could continue playing. Really clumsy design for an otherwise fantastic game.
jamsattle, I had thought - it may be the structure of where save games are, for example on XP they're in My Documents, I think the folder is different for Win 7? I wonder if perhaps trying the save games on another Win 7 machine would mean it works. I've not verified this, it just occurred to me as a possibility.
